It’s been flying under the radar and it’s still in beta, but NBC Universal has been building up a powerful online video distribution and advertising platform for a widerange of content — far beyond the NBC programming. (This is separate from MSNBC.)
The new company nbbc or National Broadband Company, is majority owned by NBC Universal with minority ownership of NBC TV affiliates.
The new platform distributes video in Flash and the snazzy new player from NBC graces our vlog today. (Thanks to the development team at nbbc for making this happen.)
Kate and I brought our camera gear up to NBC headquarters at 30 Rockefeller to interview Brian Buchwald, a veteran online advertising executive. He provides a great overview of the company. In our second installment later this week, he will give us a demo and explain plans for signing up many new content providers in the ’07. Vloggers could hit network TV next year. Could happen — well sort of……
Brian will be a keynote speaker at Streaming Media West in San Jose. We’ll be there too!
Vloggies Awards on November 4 in San Francisco — You don’t want to miss the excitement at San Francisco’s funky Swedish American Music Hall where the best vloggers along several categories will be honored. It’s a long way from Hollywood, I can tell you that! The nomination list is looking good. In fact spending time on the submissions gives a fascinating look at how the art of vlogging is developing. (We’re hoping Beet.TV and LawClinic.TV land a vloggie or two!)
Sneak Peek of Microsoft’s Answer to YouTube….Thanks to Scoble for the tip off about "Soapbox"
