The newly launched MySpace page for political coverage with content from MSNBC is an interesting experiment in brand building in the social media world. Videos from msnbc.com appear on the MySpace video player.
Not just a marketing outpost, NBC News talent and executives are busy "friending" and sharing. Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has been active and accumulating some 550 friends as of this afternoon. Seems his taste in music is resonating with a younger demographic. Wrote one "friend" in a comment:
“I thought
I was young and cool, but the music Brian Williams listens to is more hip than
I listen to!”
She was referring to his playlist, which currently
features Gnarls Barkley.
For an overview of the MySpace efforts, I went to the MSNBC set at 30 Rock to interview Mark Lukasiewicz, Vice President of Digital Media at NBC News.
