Kara Swisher, co-executive editor of All things D, had a blockbuster scoop yesterday on the sale of paidContent to the Guardian News & Media Group. Later in the day, she reported that TechCrunch and AOL have been in on and off again talks about an acquisition.
The price tag she attributes to multiple sources to a TechCrunch
sale is $20-30 million. She was unable to get any comment on this by
TechCrunch CEO Heather Harde, who declined to comment.
That price seems low to Kara, and to me and there is no indication a
deal is in the offing, but the exciting story here is the creation of
value by innovative, hard-working bloggers like Rafat Ali and Michaeal
Arrington.
Very exciting about Rafat and his sale to the Guardian. (The price
of $30 million has not been confirmed.). Kara caught up with Rafat
yesterday in New York and whipped our her trusty Flip camera for this
interview.
Rafat explains how he will remain operationally independent but use
the resources of the new corporate parent to hire and expand.
