The how-to video site Howcast has raised $2 million in additional first-round funding from private individuals, bringing its total to $10 million, Camille Ricketts at VentureBeat reports.
Andy interviewed co-founders Jason Liebman and David Blackman earlier this year, a month or so after the company launched. I republished the video above.
In her piece, Ricketts breaks down the competition in the how-to video market. Other major players include WonderHowTo, Instructables, VideoJug, and 5min. Howcast has distribution deals with heavyweights like AOL, MySpace, YouTube, and Verizon Fios TV, but this might not be enough to differentiate it, she writes. As it tries to pull ahead in a crowded market, additional funding certainly won’t hurt its chances.
Liebman will participate in Beet.TV’s online video roundtable taking place Oct. 28 in the msnbc.com digital cafe at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
