Rachel Maddow's Wednesday night, news-making interview with Rand Paul–Republican candidate for U.S. Senate from Kentucky–has gotten over 500,000 online video views in just twenty four hours, making it one of the most widely seen online news clips.
Viewers have watched the clip on Maddow's page on MSNBC and through the extensive embedding of the video on sites, including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Salon, and many others.
MSNBC.com was the first major network to make its videos sharable with an easy to cut-and-paste embed code.
The Wednesday night broadcast received 1.1 million views at 9:00 PM and 440,000 at 11:00 p.m., according a spokesperson for MSNBC.
Last April, we went to Redmond to interview MSNBC.com president and publisher Charles Tillinghast for an overview on the strategy for the embeddable player the giant Web portal. We have republished below.
