CNN's sizable investment in international coverage has paid off with increased television ratings and digital consumption, says Mark Whitaker, EVP and Managing Editor of CNN Worldwide, in this interview with Beet.TV.
Unlike the "political news channels" of FOX News and MSNBC, CNN is building its business around several news sectors including politics, international and business, he explains.
Whitaker, former editor of Newsweek and NBC News D.C. bureau chief, joined CNN in January in the newly created editorial position. He oversees editorial coverage for both the television networks and online.
He says CNN has benefited from a busy news cycle, but also by staying with major news events, including the Arab Spring. He says "We have been more consistent than we have ever been in keeping up with the big stories."
