CNN, which has been streaming video clips for several years on its site, has significantly expanded its downloadable offerings by providing daily twenty minute podcasts of top stories from the two hour Anderson Cooper 360 program. This is the first time that the network has "time shifted" a daily news program. The initiative was launched early this morning. The podcasts are available at 5am ET the following morning on the site.
Unlike MSNBC which has provided a delayed stream of the Brian Williams Nightly News program, CNN has moved the program as a downloadable file.
I was at CNN’s New York offices today where I interviewed David A. Payne, Senior VP and General Manager of CNN.com. David explains the strategy surrounding this. We also explore the issue of advertising inserted into podcasts.
