Last month at the NewTeeVee screening party in Manhattan, I caught up with Michelle Cox, head of marketing at MetaCafe, the Palo Alto-based video sharing site.
Michelle told me that the site now has 25 million visitors per month. She calls it a "video entertainment site" — and explains how quality clips are judged by some 80,000 reviewers from around the glove. And, there is a system to track and analyze how individual clips are received. MetaCafe is highly organized, and that makes it often very entertaining.
Unlike most video sharing sites which offer payment to content creators in the form of a share of advertising revenue, MetaCafe pays producers on the popularity of their clips.
Here’s what Bits’ Saul Hansell says about the emerging scene of online video sites including Metacafe.
