Next New Networks received 300 million video views in 2008–three times more than in 2007, CEO Lance Podell told me at the AlwaysOn conference last week. We're betting Obama Girl helped boost those numbers quite a bit,
but Next New Networks isn't planning on slowing down now that the election is over; as their name implies, they're already planning the next new networks for 2009.
"Our plan for 2009 is to roll out a few new networks, one of which you'll hear more about in the next week, as well as to really dig deeper into the networks we've got and add more programming where we're pulling the best talent from the web to help us create and produce programming that we can then brand, syndicate and distribute," Lance says.
In the segment, Lance also discusses the success of tech satire network Barely Digital, which launched last month. "In the first week, we launched two episodes, one of which went well to north of a million views in the first week, and one that went north of half a million views in the first week. So pretty exciting launch for the show," he says. You can read more about the Barely Digital launch in my previous post.
