LOS ANGELES — Cable operator Cox announced that it is rolling out a new program guide for its customers that integrates linear channels,
video-on-demand, and digital video recorder viewing, the company said during an interview at the recent Cable Show.
The new guide allows for searching through TV content and will also show viewers recommended and related programming, explained Lisa Pickelsimer, executive director of product development at Cox. The new guide will come with a small monthly fee for customers.
In time, the guide will likely incorporate online viewing, interactive TV, and other forms of advanced programming. Cox hasn't committed yet to a TV Everywhere type of service, but Pickelsimer said the operator is currently testing authentication technology that it could use for such a service down the road.
