AMTERDAM – Dolby believes
that streaming media is clearly the future, says Patrick Griffis, Senior
Director, CTO Office at Dolby Laboratories in an interview with Beet.TV at the
IBC show’s Dash Industry Forum, where companies from around the globe came
together to discuss MPEG Dash, the newly
standardized format for streaming digital technology.
Griffis says, "We believe,
at Dolby, [that MPEG Dash] is an idea whose time has come. There are solutions out there in the
market today, but Dash brings a new level of standardization and the fact that
many companies are part of the Dash Industry Forum is testament to that."
While Griffis acknowledges
that there is no shortage of alternative solutions, Apple being one example, he
says he believes that recent industry interest points to Dash becoming a global
standard in the future. "We’re
pretty bullish on the prospects for Dash being implemented on a global basis by
many companies, industries and countries."
