This Sunday’s big, VH1 Divas show from the Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood has many of the digital elements of other live entertainment shows with video streaming from the red carpet and backstage, but in something new, the cable net is producing a large numer of animated GIF’s of celebs.
We spoke with Dan Sacher, VH1 SVP for digital, about the emerging use of GIF’s on the site and on social networks. He explains the emerging impact of the short, silent moving photos. VH1 will have a booth on the red carpet to record and produce GIF’s with celebrities where the files will be created immediately and shared.
Last month, we spoke with Tumblr founder David Karp about the renewed interest in GIF’s, a format for simple moving images introduced in 1987. You can find that interview here.
