The British tabloid the Daily Mail, known as Mail Online, has become the biggest English language newspaper destination site in the world. It is growing quickly in the U.S., with a 30 percent increase over last year, and monthly unique visitors up to 36,4 million, according to comScore. That growth has come with a mix of punchy gossip and striking photography and graphics. Its aggressive reporting on celebrity news has rankled some of its subjects, as demonstrated with its take-down of a story on George Clooney’s fiancee, which is reported today in The New York Times.
