Advocates, caregivers and survivors of breast cancer were duly honored on May 2 at the second annual Women in Media & Marketing Awards Luncheon benefiting Breastcancer.org.

Among the extraordinary honorees accepting an award was Jason Brum, Emerging Initiatives-Video Ad Sales at Apple. Brum’s wife Maura was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer 12 years ago and underwent “an arduous treatment plan” while raising three children under the age of seven.

“I’m honored to be receiving the Caregiver Award,” Brum told Beet.TV, who covered the luncheon at JPMorgan Chase Headquarters in New York.

At the time, Brum was at NBCU and was fortunate enough to receive the flexibility to be at home where he was needed and put family first. Key learnings from the supportive experience that Brum benefited from would tie in to reassurance and flexibility.

Brum added he and his wife also benefited greatly from the support of Breastcancer.org. “There’s a lot of medical terminology that can be very daunting, because there’s no standard protocol for breast cancer,” he explained. “We leaned into Breastcancer.org for a lot of information, and luckily we were able to find a great team of healthcare providers.”
