Women in the past 50 years have steadily risen into top managerial roles in the advertising and media industries, but there’s still more work to be done in terms of equal pay and greater diversity in the C-suite. Amid these efforts, women can help each other, a key theme of the “Lift As You Climb” luncheon presented by She Runs It at the Beet Retreat Santa Monica.
“My career has happened through a lot of hard work, definitely a lot of learning, and most importantly, a lot of serendipity and really the generosity of so many people that I met along the way,” Pooja Midha, executive vice president and general manager at Comcast’s Effectv, said in this interview with Lisa Granatstein, editorial director of Beet.TV.
“I got to learn by watching the people that I worked for coming up in the industry,” Midha said. “So it’s one of the reasons, all of that, why I am incredibly passionate about the work that She Runs It does.”
Since starting her career, Midha has seen the media industry become more inclusive of women, she said.
“It looks really different now. That does not mean we’re done. We have a lot more work to do,” Midha said. “One of the areas that we have a lot more work to do as an industry is around pay equity across the gender gap. We have yet to close that. And certainly in terms of women being in C-suite roles and decision making, again, we’ve made a lot of progress, but there is still opportunity there.”
